HYTHE XI vs NUNEATON (Warwickshire)
Tuesday 29th July
@ Jones Lane, Hythe
Nuneaton Live Upto Their Reputation To Deliver Great Day
Hythe has not seen many better days at Jones Lane as the 30+ strong party from Nuneaton arrived for a day of cricket, beer and a lot of fun. Hythe members played their part as many dropped down straight after work to help and support the club.
One downside was the 125 run defeat as a poor all round performance meant that the Warwickshire side didn't see the Geen Caps in their true colours.
Nuneaton won the toss and elected to bat first to the sound of drums and horns of the Nuneaton spectators. With the score on 38 Hythe got a much needed breakthrough when Hubbard was well caught & bowled by Richard Last for 28. R.Harris joined Bowen and after Last went for 1-40 off his 8 overs and Stevens 1-30 off 7 they proceeded to put on 93 for the second wicket beofre Harris was caught by Robbie James off Harry Smith for 42.
Lee Powell bowled very well 0-23 off 7 but it was Harry who got amongst the wickets again by having Stringer well caught by Page for 5. Nuneaton then picked up the pace with Mike Graham's 3 overs going for 30 and Pete Smith's 4 overs for 32. Matt Young didn't fair much better his 2 overs going for 21 and skipper Robbie James 0-28 off 3. Nuneaton 247 for 4 off 40 overs.
Hythe got off to the worse possible start when Harry Smith was caught down the legside for 0. Tongsy thought he was in the West Indies as he slammed three consecutive fours to the boundary to the noise of drums, whistles and hooters. But his innings was building well (25) when Matt Young run him out and game over for Hythe. Only Richard Last (36) and Robbie James (10) made double figures as Hythe were bowled out for 122 in just 26.4 overs
One consulation for Hythe - Later on in the evening they won the stump race thanks to the cheating Pistol Pete.
