TONY WOODHOUSE TROPHY
HYTHE SUNDAY 2nd XI vs SWAY
Sunday 27th July
Holders Sway Back In The Hunt After Rolling Over Hythe
Hythe were knocked off the top of the Tony Woodhouse Trophy yesterday by holders and favourites Sway who bounced back to form after their defeat to Fawley last month. Hythe lost Mike Bowman in the first over and never recovered.
Toss Won by : Hythe
Hythe Captain Sean Tongs won the toss and after player persuasion amazingly decided to bat first against the Trophy holders with a very young side. Things got even tougher when Mike Bowman was caught off the third ball of the innings for 0. Matt Young at the other end played with a lot of maturity and carried his bat throughout the innings for 39 not out.
The Smith brothers hung around for a little time before Ben was out 8 and Harry 13. Hythe's last hope of a good score was when Sean Tongs came in at five but he was unfortunately triggered by Tom Huxley for 2. Sean got his own back later giving Tom run out for 0. Addie Page hit 2 fours in his 9 but the innings of 103 was owed much to Youngs 39 not out which included 4 fours.S.Howe was the best of the Sway bowlers 3-11 off 5 overs.
Hythe needed to respond in the field quickly and Tom Richards did just that having Clark caught by Ben Smith for 0. Sway lost a second wicket when Tom Huxley bowled S.Naylor for 0 at 12-2 but that was as good as it got for Hythe as W.Vaughan 57 not out and A.Hall 42 not out rapped up the game in just 12 overs (Vaughans first ever half century). Even the introduction of Ben Smith 0-34 off 2 and Harry Smith 0-20 off 2 couldn't help the Green Caps in an embarrasing 8 wkt defeat.
One plus for Hythe was the debut of 12 year old Zac Miller who made 7 and fielded very well.
