Twenty20 Challenge
Hythe & Dibden XI vs Solent Wanderers XI
25th July Played @ Jones Lane
Another Top Evening at Jones Lane
Hythe welcomed back Chalky's Solent Wanderers side for their annual Twenty20 and the opposition didn't disappoint with over £450 put through the til. As for the cricket Hythe won by 36 runs thanks largely to Matt Howe's 100 not out. His knock included 12 fours and 2 sixes. Solent fielded no less than 8 players that had played for Hythe at some time in their younger days.
A gentlemans agreement saw Chalky insert the Hythe XI into bat. Skipper Russell Moore opened with Tom Porter who was adjudged L.B.W by Pete Stevens snr forth ball for a golden. Hythe 2 for 2 but that was the last shock of the Hythe Innings as Russell Moore and Matt Howe put on a 103 for the 2nd wicket in just 13 overs. Moore was then caught by ex Hythe player Mike Lambrou off Mr.Sport Mark Croucher for 37.
To add to Solent's woes Mr.Sport was then smashed on the nose and had to leave the field. Fortunatley he managed to push the ball into his face and his glasses took some of the force off. A small cut but its going to be black tomorrow. Matt Howe then went onto reach his first ton for the green caps before retiring on 100 not out. Fingers crossed this form will carry over into tomorrows game.
Sean Tongs finished on 22 not out and James Page 7 noty out as Hythe finished on 179 for 2 from their 20 overs. Chalky who dropped Matt Howe on 17 went for 26 off his 3 overs whilst Julian Chalmers went for 19 off 2 overs.
Solent opened with Kev James and Chalky White but after 3 overs Richard Last had Chalky caught for 13. Kev James topped scored for the Wanderers with 21 but they were always going to struggle to reach the target set and did well to reach 143. For Hythe James Carse took 3-18 whilst Tom Porter came on at the end to take 3-2.
But at the end of the day the club won with over £450 going over the bar - thanks to the Solent Lads and hopefully we can get the game back on next year.
