HYTHE UNDER 15'S Vs MUDEFORD
29th June @ Ledbury Road, Mudeford
The Highs And Lows of Running a Colts Side in 7 Days
Spare a thought for Under 15's Coach Sally Harding - one week she's celebrating the lads fine win against Cranbourne and 7 days later she has to go to rock bottom Mudeford with three key players missing and suffer a defeat.
One good thing to come out of the game was that with Jonjo and Tom missing Matt Young had a chance to bat through the innings after a dismal under 15 season. Matt scored 35 not out well done to him. Sam Page also batted well for 27.
On a sunny morning Hythe travelled down the coast to Mudeford who had lost all their matches so far this season. Hythe would have to do it without usual top three batsman Jonjo Stovell, Tom Richards and Sam Mead who were all missing.
Mudeford inserted Hythe and Harry Smith spoilt a great chance of a good bat being caught for 3. Nick Shrive soon followed for a duck and Hythe were in a spot of trouble. Damien Lord hit 7 off three shots before being trapped L.B.W. but Matt Young found good support in Sam Page who hit a quick fire 27. Young played the anchor role and who can blame him after being put down the order for most of this season.
Once Page went the Hythe batting then crumbled to 96 for 8 off their 18 overs with Young unbeaten on 35.
Game on and Harry Smith did his best - bowling his 4 overs for just 18 runs and 2 wickets. Todd Powell bowled well (0-19 off 4) without getting a wicket, but the Mudeford batsman took a shine to Sam Page who went for 38 off his 4 overs.
Louis Phillips took 2 catches and Damon Lord 1 and Nick Shrive took a clean bowled but it wasn't to be Hythe's day and they went down by 6 wickets with 2 overs to go.
So two games to go and Totton & Eling up next another tough challenge for the Green Caps but Sally will be as keen as ever. Her fourth season running a colts side and having to put up with all the traumas of putting out a side handicapped by other interests.
