Back To Winning Ways
A depleted Hythe side got back to winning ways with a comfortable 6 wicket win at Cadnam. Without Mike Edwards, Pete Stevens snr, Richard Last, Greg Woods and Pete Stevens jnr Hythe bowled out the homeside for 119 - Steve Miller taking 3-44. Sean Tongs 42, Wayne Effeny 32 and Mike Bowman 27* made sure the Green Caps took home 23 points
Hythe won the toss and elected to field first.
On a damp and lively pitch Hythe took to the field looking for early wickets. Hythe's opening pair of Wayne Effeny and Steve Miller bowled very well and at the 9 over stage Cadnam had reached only 27-0. Effeny struck the first blow in the 9th bowling Molten for 17. I.Lawrence and Mark Wright-Green moved the score onto 63 before Miller and Lawrence caught by Gary Howe for 30 - Cadnam 63 for 2 off 16.
4 wickets for 8 runs then fell to take the score to 71 for 6 and turn the game very much in Hythe's favour. First Bowman caught Wright-Green for 11 off Lee Powell. Elliott was then run out for 0. Payne caught by White off Miller for 1 and Miller then bowled Waters for 0.
Steve Miller finished his spell with 3-44 off 12 his best figures for some time. Ian White replaced him and with his 5th ball claimed the wicket of Jurd (1) caught by Tongs - Cadnam 86 for 7. Peter Elliott was Cadnams only hope of a sizeable score but was running out of partners fast. A.Dunning was next to go caught behind by Gary Howe off White for 4 - Cadnam 103 for 8. Elliott finally fell to Woods for 29 and the returning Effeny bowled Pilton for 0 as Cadnam finished on 119 all out.
In reply Sean Tongs and Tom Porter made a good start taking the score to 31 before Porter was bowled by Jurd for 7 in the 9th over. Wayne Effeny joined Tongs and was happy to play the support role as Tongs made 42 including 8 fours before being caught behind by Dunning with the score on 59 for 2 off 16 overs.
Mike Bowman then joined Effeny to take the green caps close but at 107 Effeny was caught off the bowling of Pilton for 32. 107 for 2 became 3 when Gary Howe added another score to the Duck Club. But the skipper wasn't to se a Hythe collapse and saw Hythe home by 6 wickets. Bowman finished on 27 not out and Lee Powell 3 not out.
