Hythe & Dibden XI vs FAWLEY XI

17th June Played @ Jones Lane.

Froggett Stars in Twenty20 Cracker Tied Game

Hythe & Dibden finally broke the Fawley run of Twenty20 wins when they pulled off a tied match in a cracking game played at Jones Lane. A decent size crowd amassed to see Hythe chase 125 to win. With 1 over to go Hythe required 13 to win and after two dot balls it looked over, but Richie Froggett 59 not out superbly supported by skipper Robbie James 28 not out, cracked a 6 off the fourth ball and a 4 off the fifth leaving two to win off the final ball, but a single brought the tie. Earlier some fine catches and fielding by the Hythe youngsters brought Hythe back in the game after a bad start.

Hythe took to the field on a sunny evening after Fawley decided to bat first. Greg Woods opened from the bottom end only to face Fawleys no 1 batsman over the past twenty years - Andy Parratt. Parratt proceeded to hit two fours off the first over which went for 15. But the old fox Chalky White opened from the top end and quickly got into his rythem. Only 3 runs off his first over and a wicket with the final ball when Parratt (11) was superbly caught by Tom Porter in the deep. Parratt's demise brought in one of County 1's top 6 batsman last year - Dave Streather.

Woods next over went for 10 and Fawley were 30-1 off 3. White's next over and another wicket when Streather's skier was well caught by Mills at mid-wicket. Woods made it 33 for 3 when he superbly caught Rogers off his own bowling and in his final over he bowled K.Earl for 21. 8 overs gone Fawley 44 for 4 - White finishing with 2-12 and Woods 2-30 good figures after a bad start .

A partnership then formed of 29 between Wayne Smith and D.Godden before Mills had Smith well caught by Moore for 21. After hitting the next ball for 6 Godden was bowled by Mills for 14 and Fawley 78 for 6 off 15 overs. S.Thomas then joined J.Doe in an unbeaten 7th wicket stand of 46 in the final 5 overs (including 18 off a Mills over) to set Hythe 125 to win. Doe finished on 18* and Thomas 26*.

Hythe opened with Wayne Effeny and James Page and after a steady start Page was bowled by Bolton for 2 in the 3rd over. The experience of Wayne Smith (1-10 off 4) from the bottom end continued to cause Hythe problems but Effeny and Moore pushed the score onto 32 before Hythe lost their second wicket when Effeny was stumped for 20. Moore was then bowled by Rogers for 7 with his first ball. 3 balls later he also sent Porter packing for 2 and Hythe were 34 for 4 off 9 overs at the same stage Fawley were 47 for 4.

Skipper Robbie James was then joined by Richie Froggett and James first scoring shot was a 6 off the bowling of Andy Parratt. At the half way stage Hythe pushed there way to 44 for 4. At 15 overs Hythe had reached 75 for 4 with Froggett begining to take control and James happy to push the singles to give him the strike. 5 overs 50 runs needed to win. 9 came off the next and final Parratt over. Streather came onto bowl the 17th which went for 6 and Earls next over brought 9 more runs to the green caps including a lovely four from Froggett.

2 Overs to go Hythe needing 26 to win with 7 Fawley players on the boundary.- Froggett hits a 4 and a 6 to bring up his half century and Streathers over goes for 13. Earl bowls the final over and his first two balls are dot balls. 13 needed off 4. A scrambled single off the third ball put Froggett on strike and he clears the boundary for 6 off the fourth ball leaving Hythe needing 6 off 2 balls which the next went for 4. 2 runs to win off the final ball but unfortunately the guys could only make 1. Richie Froggett finishing unbeaten on 59* and Robbie James 28* - 90 run partnership in 11 overs

Tied game played in a very good spirit - thanks to Fawley for a good game and well done to the Hythe lads an excellent performance. Thanks also to a noisy crowd at the end for supporting the game and to Mike and Kev on the bar, and Sean for umpiring.
