HYTHE & DIBDEN 2nd XI vs ALDERHOLT

14th June 2008

Depleted Hythe Go Close

A Hythe side depleted with unavailabilites and injuiries put in a commendable performance before going down by 3 wickets to Alderholt this afternoon. With only four recognised bowlers in the side things were made worse when Pete Stevens snr pulled a hamstring whilst batting.

Hythe won the toss and elected to bat first.

Sean Tongs and Tom Porter made steady progress before Porter was adjudged LBW with the score on 19. This brought Wayne Effeny to the wicket and together with Tongs they progressed through to the 21st over when Tongs was out caught with the score on 65. Pete Stevens snr was just beginning to build an innings when he sprinted for a quick single and damaged a hamstring which contributed to him being bowled by the next delivery he faced.

Effeny , Gary Howe and Mike Bowman all tried to accelerate the scoring over the last 15 overs with limited success as each perished to attacking strokes, leaving the last five batsmen to eke out what runs they could from the final couple of overs. Hythe completed their innings on 171 for 9 from 42 overs

In reply Alderholt got off to a flier reaching 41 off the first 5 overs. Slowly Wayne Effeny (12-4-33-4) and Ian White (12-2-39-2) pegged back the scoring rate but with a less than fully fit team of fielders and limited bowling alternatives it was difficult to apply any consistent pressure to the batsmen and despite a whole hearted performance from all concerned Alderholt reached their target in the 40th over for the loss of 7 wickets.
