New Forest Presidents Cup Quarter Finals
Hythe & Dibden vs CADNAM
2nd June @ Jones Lane
Hythe Lose Out In The Rain On Faster Run Rate
On a dark and wet Monday evening Hythe bowed out of the Presidents Cup when they were beaten on a faster scoring rate after the umpires surprisingly called the game off with just 4 overs to go.
Cadnam batted first and set a decent total of 106 for 5 off their 18 overs. Simon Wright continued his wicket taking of Saturday with two more whilst there were also impressive four over spells from Second XI players Chalky White 0-11 and Mike Edwards 0-21.
In louzy conditions Hythe started brightly with Kev James 13 and Simon Wright 13 but then Matt Maiden snapped up three quick wickets for the visitors. The turning point came when Sean Tongs 22 was harshly given run out. Rich Froggett 13 and Rob James 13* kept Hythe in the game but with 4 overs to go and the weather no different to an hour earlier, the umpires decided to halt the game.
After checking the rule book and with both teams on the same scores at that stage - the result was decided on the scores after 10 overs which gave the game to Cadnam. Tough luck on the Green Caps - no wonder this Competition which has a great history in the Forest, is dwindling in numbers every year.
