SWAY Vs HYTHE UNDER 13'S
29th May @ Sway
Under 13's Win in the Drizzle @ Sway.
Because of squad numbers three changes were made this week as Hythe’s U13’s travelled to Sway on the stormiest of nights with little chance of playing a full game. However, Sway having their own weather it seems was the only place in the south with a playable surface and playable conditions.
Hythe won the toss and Tom elected to bat first and set a total on a large playing area. Josh Mead 2 returned to the pavilion first with the score on 7 caught off the bowling of Fossell. Kieran Chalmers and Richard Jones then pushed the score upto 27 in 11 overs with some good running between the wickets before Richard was caught out off the bowling of Parks.
Two wickets in 2 overs saw both Jack Knight-Owen and Zac Miller both lose their wickets without troubling the scorers but James Bidwell and Chris Griffin assisted Kieran to 18 before he ran himself out whilst chasing quick runs. Chris 5 was out soon afterwards. George Prodromou and Charlie Crane then chipped in with a few runs and then Charlie 2* and James Bidwell 3* ensured the bonus point at 55 and the Hythe innings finished on 56 for 7.
A team meeting at the half way mark and it was decided to have a real go from the off and win the game.
Kieran Chalmers and Josh Mead were given their full quota of 4 overs each straight off and they responded brilliantly - Sway after 8 overs 16 for 2. Kierans 4 overs finished with figures of 1-4 whilst Josh took 1-10. They were supported by some quick sharp fielding by the young green caps.
First change saw Zac Miller bowl 3 overs 1-6 including 2 maidens and Tom Smith 3 overs 0-13 - Sway 35 for 3 with only 4 overs remaining Sway were still looking for 20 runs for victory.
Marc Reids over went for 8 runs and with 3 overs remaining Sway needed just 12 runs to win - enter Richard Jones the bowler, only 2 runs off his first over and a valuable wicket. Sway pushing for runs were now taking risks and after 8 runs off the penultimate over bowled by Charlie Crane - Sway now only needed 4 runs to win off the final over with 6 wickets in hand.
But Richard had other ideas - a dot ball to start followed by a wicket caught behind. off the second ball. The third ball was again a dot ball and then a run out wicket and a run off the fourth. A dot ball off the fifth and a single off the last ball - Sway finished on 54 for 6 just 3 runs short.
Congratulations goes to the Hythe players who kept their nerve in the final few overs and their parents on the side lines who nerves were jangling but kept relatively quiet. An exciting finish that gave Hythe Colts their first win of the season.
