HYTHE & DIBDEN 2nd XI vs PAULTONS III

25th May 2008

Hythe 2nd XI Rattle Up 276 for 6 & Break 2nd XI Club Record

Hythe 2nd XI batsman got mean on Saturday as they hit 276 for 6 off their 42 overs and in turn broke the 2nd XI Club Record of 262 for 3 achieved against Hordle Village back in 2003. Gary Howe's team then delivered in the field to wrap up a convincing 101 run victory.

Hythe won the toss and decided to bat first.

Tom Porter and Sean Tongs tucked in to the friendly bowling offered by Paultons reaching their 50 partnership in the 7^th over. Tongs was the first to depart caught by the keeper down the leg side for 43 but Tom Porter continued on to complete his maiden league half century before holing out for 51.

Wayne Effeny (40) Gary Howe (34) and Pete Stevens snr. (55) all continued to find the boundary regularly whilst Russell Moore and Steve Miller scampered some useful runs at the end of the innings helping Hythe to a very healthy score of 276 for 6 from 42 overs.

The Paultons reply was kept in check by some accurate bowling particularly early on from Mike Edwards and Pete Stevens jnr. This had the effect of reducing the batting side’s ambition and so the challenge for Hythe was to take wickets.

All of the bowlers managed to claim at least one victim but progress was slow and Paultons finally completed their innings on 175 for 9 giving Hythe a victory by 101 runs. Greg Woods and Steve Miller each took spectacular diving catches while Wayne Effeny, Sean Tongs and Gary Howe (3) held on to more regulation chances. Steve Miller and Chalky White each clean bowled one victim whilst Tom Porter hit the only 6 of Hythe’s innings.
