RINGWOOD vs HYTHE 2nd XI

Saturday 17th May

Hythe 2nd XI Fall Just 7 Runs Short.

Chasing 208 to win Hythe put in a good chase before falling just 7 runs short as they took on Ringwood at The Carers Sports Ground this afternoon.

Hythe won the toss and asked Ringwood to bat first.

With overcast skies the Hythe bowlers all moved the ball in the air and off the seam but with little luck. Ringwood reached 50 in the11th over before the breakthrough finally came when Pete Stevens snr. held on to a sharp catch at first slip off the bowling of Steve Miller. This brought M Bowater to the crease who proceeded to assault the bowling of Chalky White hitting three 6’s, one of them smashing a car windscreen before being dismissed by Russell Moore. Wickets then fell steadily but Ringwood continued to score at nearly 5 runs per over finishing on 207 for 8 from their 42 overs.

In reply Sean Tongs (48) and Tom Porter put on 59 for the first wicket before Porter fell for 18. Wayne Effeny (43) and Pete Stevens snr. (32) both made significant contributions but Hythe were always just behind the required rate and in the gloom with the ball still moving around the innings came to a close on 200 for 7 giving Ringwood the victory by 7 runs.

There were catches for P Stevens snr (2), R Moore and G Howe.
