HYTHE SUNDAY XI VS FIFTH ARMS ( Portsmouth)

Sunday 4th August

Toss : Won by Fifth Arms

WRIGHTY IN A HURRY FOR RUNS

Simon Wright brushed ignored the showers to smash the Green Caps to a 7 wicket win over their Portsmouth opposition. Wrighty scored an unbeaten 79 out of 100 for 3 to seal Hythe's win with 21 overs remaining.

With Wimbourne cancelling on Friday, scates pub side Fifth Arms again filled in at short notice. The game was delayed whilst the visitors enjoyed a pint at our new sponsors The Lord Nelson.Stand in skipper for the day Sean Tongs then unfortunately lost the toss and Hythe took to the field in the drizzle.

Tongsy then proceeded to give everyone a 4 over bowl as the visitors struggled to 98 all out from 39.4 overs. The best of the Hythe bowling Simon Wright who wrapped up the tail taking 3.4 - 1- 12 - 3 whilst Greg Woods and Sean Tongs picked up 2 wickets each.

Hythe opened with Wrighty and Pete Stevens snr and the pair put on 39 before Stevens was bowled for 4. Richard Last survived 3 balls before being bowled for a duck but then Tongs and Wright put on 53 before Tongs was run out for 5.

Wrighty finished on 79 not out - his innings included 11 fours and 2 sixes and Matt Young 0 not out.

Though not the strongest of sides the Fifth Arms once again played the game in great spirirt and we thank them for making the journey up the M27.

Well done also to Jonjo Stovell who made his senior debut and bowled neatly 4-1-7-0 as well as taking a catch and to colts Harry Smith and Matt Young who put in good performances.
