Colts Raise Their Game Once Again To Seal Hythe Win
 |
| Harry Smith - Man of the Match |
Hythe won their first August Bank Holiday Monday fixture in five years when they comfortably beat touring side Salfords by 5 wickets. Hythe once again fielded a youthful side which again brought glowing praise from the opposition for their performance in the field. Harry Smith took four wickets to earn the Man of the Match Award from the opposition
In the final home fixture of the season Hythe fielded first. Pete Stevens jnr and Rich Last bowled well but without any luck restricting Salfords to 40 runs from the first 12 overs. This prompted the introduction of Harry Smith who made an immediate impact with a 4 over spell taking 3 wickets for 3 runs. Greg Woods at the other end was keeping things tight returning figures of 6 overs 1 wicket for 19 runs. This accurate bowling, along with some excellent ground fielding kept the pressure on Salfords, who tried to accelerate the scoring, with only limited success as a direct hit by Matt Howe ran out one surprised batsman and further wickets from Harry Smith, Nardus Grobler and Matt Howe. This followed good but wicketless spells from Matt Stark and Luke Mills restricting Salfords to 156 for 8 at tea.
Matt Howe took a catch and a run out, whilst Sean Tongs and Harry Smith also took catches which brought strong praise from the Salfords contingent on the boundary.
In reply Sean Tongs (45) and Matt Stark (23) put on an opening stand of 77 in 18 overs which laid the foundation for a well judged run chase as Hythe Required 80 runs from the final 20 overs. James Page (30), Nardus Grobler (16), Luke Mills (10*) and Matt Howe (7*) along with a generous supply of extras saw Hythe reach their target for the loss of 5 wickets with one over to spare.
