BRAVE HYTHE MISS OUT BY 2 RUNS
Hythe & Dibden 1st XI Vs RYDE
25.08.07 @ Jones Lane
On a rare hot day a fantastic game full of quality cricket in which Hythe looked poised to win and gain the promotion they so thoroughly deserved finished in controversy and left them just 2 runs short.
Ryde batting first made 189-8 with J.Miller making a solid 50 and with S.Greenfield 30 and L.Tolfrey a quick-fire 38, Hythe's bowlers worked hard in the heat with Paul Whitlock taking 4-65 after bowling his 12 overs straight through to the end, and Simon Wright 1-31 from 10 overs doing a fine job after be given the new ball.
Hythe in reply made 187, after another poor start against B.Granger 3-42 and A.Mead 4-41, Nardus Grobler 23 and a really good knock from Matt Tatchell 62 aided by Dave Guymer turned the game Hythe's way, but with Guymer batting superbly on 34 and looking set to give the home side victory at 187-9 he was very unfortunate to be adjudged out lbw.

Sadly for Hythe its another season in county 2 next year.
Despite beating all three promoted teams comfortably, depite having without doubt the best bowling attack in the league and wicket keeper - the weather at the end of the day was the biggest reason for Hythe's failure to win promotion.
Having to bat first on a unplayable track at Ellingham and the cancellation of games against bottom sides Petersfield and OT's & Romsey certainly didn't help the average.
To Dixie and his lads - well done guys it was a great effort
To Froggie - MOTTO: Always see things through to the end.
