TWENTY20 FRIENDLY CRICKET.
Friday 24th August Vs SOLENT WANDERERS
Profitable Night For Hythe & a Win
Nothing can replace the Birmingham Old Boys but the Solent Wanderers ex footballers swelled the bar takings and provided a good end of season friendly.
Chalky Solents skipper for the night gamely suggested that Hythe batted first to set a total. Mike Bowman captained the side and sent Rich Bunce out to the middle with James Page.
With the bowling looking very ragged Hythe were hoping to score freely in this 18 over contest. Sadly James Page waisted his chance to get a decent score in only the second over when he was caught for 1. Punchey Mills joined Buncey in the middle and after 5 overs the score had slowly advanced to 20. Thankfully the next five overs improved after some friendly barracking from the boundary. Buncey was uping the pace and hit a six into the hedge. In the 12th over though Buncey was second man out for 36 with the score on 82.
Two more wickets then fell in quick succession as Porter was bowled by Chalky for 3 and Richard Last was caught for 0. Hythe 89 for 4 off 14. This brought Sunday legend Tony North to the crease and after one dashing four he brought the memoried flooding back when he ran out Punchey for 29. Northy soon followed when he was dodgely given out LBW by James Page giving Kev James a wicket. In the closing over Pete Stevens snr was run out for 0 whilst the Guru, batting down the order because he turned up late, hit a six onto the Parish Lawns. Tongs finished 12 not out and Kevin McCarthy 4 not out as Hythe finished on 117 for 7 off 18 overs.
As a game the match ended after 12 balls when Kev James was clean bowled by McCarthy for 1. Good news for Hythe on two accounts though - 1 that he could have got the visitors close had he stayed in and 2 he ended up doing a superb job on the barbeque.
Tony Thacker 35 was the only Solent player to get into double figures as the footballers were shot out for 76. Chalky was LBW to Tongs for 1 and Mark Croucher was caught by James Page off Mike Bowman also for 1.
The Hythe bowling Pete Stevens took 3-6 whilst The Guru took 4-2. Northy got into the act as well with a stumping .
