HYTHE SUNDAY XI vs BEDHAMPTON

10 Sixes - 4 Fours Grobler In a Hurry

Anything Mr.Hovey can do - Nardus can do better - One thing Bedhampton boys won't miss next season when they visit Hythe is the batting performances of the big South African. He produced a powerful display of batting scoring 123 not out in damp conditions. An inniungs which included 10 sixes and 4 fours.

Hythe lost the toss and were asked to field. Pete Stevens JNR and Greg Woods opened the bowling and got Hythe off to a good start. Woods had M Collins caught and bowled for 0 with his first ball then the following over Stevens had G Hoolihan caught by Whitlock for 0 leaving Bedhampton 2 for 2 from three overs. After a bad start however, things improved for Bedhampton. The incoming batsmen, D Clark and C Hovey, put together a partnership of 64 before Russell Moore had Hovey caught by Rob James for 33 in the nineteenth over. S Gardner then joined Clark and remained there until the thirty-sixth over when Woods had him caught by Nardus Grobler for 36. Hythe took their fifth and final wicket the next over when Stevens bowled A Gardner for 0. He was replaced by M Hovey who then went on to hit 28 runs off Moore in the last over taking Bedhampton to 193-5 in their forty overs, Clark finishing on 76* and Hovey 29*.

Nardus Grobler and Paul Whitlock opened the batting for Hythe. After a few overs playing himself in, Grobler started to play some attacking shots and Whitlock took a supporting role feeding Grobler the strike. In the eighteenth over, Whitlock was bowled by G Quade for a well earned 17. He was replaced by Sean Tongs (39*). Grobler continued playing shots and reached his hundred in the thirty-first over. Hythe did not lose another wicket and in the thirty-fifth over passed Bedhampton’s total with a bye. Grobler finished on 123 not out having hit ten sixes and four fours. Hythe won by nine wickets.
