HYTHE 2nd XI Vs BRANSGORE II

Bransgore won the toss and elected to bat. Hythe’s opening bowlers were again relatively frugal but failed to provide the early breakthrough. Mike Bowman then replaced Bunchy with Pete Stevens jnr. who finally bowled the dangerous Jem Page with the score on 55 in the 17^th over. It was a further 10 overs and 31 runs later before another wicket fell but spin twins Pete Stevens snr and Chalky White teamed up to make inroads into the middle order reducing Bransgore to 89 for 4 from 30 overs and with the help of two run outs and a wicket from Mike Edwards in the penultimate over Bransgore were restricted to 168 for 9 from their 42 overs. There were catches by Rich Bunce, Mike Bowman and Gary Howe and the run outs were courtesy of Pete Stevens snr. and Ewan Bell. Pete Stevens snr. (twice) and Pete Stevens jnr. (once) clean bowled batsmen.

In reply Hythe were always ahead of the required run rate with Sean Tongs (26) Matt Howe (56) and Wayne Effeny (28 including three 6’s) all batting well such that after 30 overs Hythe were 125 for 3 and despite the loss of two more wickets the target was comfortably reached in the 41^st over for the loss of 5 wickets.
