MIDWEEK TOUR MATCH

Tuesday August 7th Vs BROMLEY COMMON (KENT)

James Carse Latest Hat-trick Hero For Green Caps

Rain brought an abrupt end to an entertaining afteroon in more ways than one. 25 Bromley Commoners decended on the club bar at 2pm and kept the money rolling in until they left just before 9pm. On the pitch they were just as entertaining but Gary Howe's youthful side put of strong performance bowling the visitors out for just 145 in 32.1 overs before the rain came.

As per tradition the visitors chose to bat first in a 40 over game. Bromley rested several experienced players knowing stronger games against Fawley and Wimbourne were coming later in the week.

A youthful Hythe side opened the bowling with Russell Moore and Richard Last to which L.Walker took an instant like to. 70 runs came off the first 10 overs but Moore 2 and Last 1 did pick up three wickets in the process. Walker continued to thrash the ball to the boundary and in no time brought up his fifty. Lee Powell, Woods and Grobler reduced the next 10 overs to just 3.5 an over and Powell picked up three more wickets in the process. Walker made a fine 100 but finally fell to a stumping by Gary Howe off James Carse for 109. Carse in the same over went onto record a club hat trick.

Carse finished with 4-23 off 7 and when Matt Stark bowled the last man Bromley were all out for 145 in just 32.1 overs. A good afternoons work for Gary Howe's young side.

Sadly that was it on the square as the ran came down in abundance. The Kent side continued to entertain though, with a club stump race with 12 pints of beer on a very wet outfield and then a fines sheet which must have collected £100+ . The Hythe funds didn't do bad either as over £400 was spent on the bar plus £35 on the barbie.

Bromley then moved onto Fawley on the Wednesday and comfortably beat a strong Fawley side including Parrett, and Streather. In celebration several of the Bromley players did a streak around the Fawley pitch to the amazement of the Waterside Club locals.

If any of the Bromley lads read this which I am told they will - thanks for the game, entertainment and especially the much needed revenue. If your down this way again we would certainly welcome you back.
