Draw Keeps Hythe's Chances Alive
An inexperienced Hythe side put in a good performance at Sway to battle out a draw thus keeping their Trophy Chances alive. Champions Fawley have to play both Sway and Hythe as one win could now decide the outcome of the trophy.
Sway won the toss and elected to bat first. A fine innings of 84 not out from Terry Steadman formed the backbone of Sway’s total of 178 for 9 declared at tea with the mainly inexperienced Hythe attack performing extremely well with Russell Moore (8 overs 4 for 14) having the best figures. There were catches for P Stannett, T Moore, R Last and G Howe. There were 3 clean bowled wickets by S Tongs (2) and G Woods.
In reply Hythe managed to reach 151 for 9 with S Tongs 64*, E Bell 20 and M Young 10 the only batsmen to reach double figures. A mention must go to Sam Mead who unfortunately failed to trouble the scorers but did act as substitute fielder for Sway taking a catch to dismiss James Carse. An enjoyable game played in the right spirit fitting for the aims of this competition, with Sway picking up 14 points and Hythe 13 points keeping both teams interest in the tournament alive.
