Hythe Battle To Beat Cadnam
Hythe & Dibden 1st XI Vs CADNAM
14.07.07 @ Jones Lane
Hythe continued their winning ways with a 3 wicket over a tough Cadnam side on a hot and sunny day at Jones Lane with the bowlers yet again setting the tone and a majestic knock by Nardus Grobler seeing Hythe to victory.
On winning the toss Hythe skipper Simon Dixon put Cadnam in on a very good looking Hythe strip, rather to Cadnam's surprise, and initially the visitors must have been fairly happy as Nardus still suffering with his bowling and Richie Froggett struggled to make the breakthrough. At 31 Froggett finally removed S.Ali for 11 and shortly afterwards Ben Kendrick had Cadnam's Aussie J. Collicoat trapped lbw for just 3, Paul Whitlock took over from Froggett and removed P.Kerley 0 and opener I.Bradley 15 as Cadnam stuttered to 45-4. S.Pollock and N.Way started to rebuild for the visitors, but with Whitlock & Kendrick keeping pressure on the scoring rate was under 3 an over, and at 110 following a good 65 partnership Simon Wright removed Pollock for 20 caught in the gulley by Whitlock, at 127 the returning Froggett had Way who played well for 46 brilliantly stumped by Kev James and then bowled A.Costin 0 first ball, Kendrick returning then had A.Green 7 caught by Rob James and bowled R.Jurd 3. K.Garratt 13 played a few shots to take Cadnam past 150 before he was run out from the boundary from an amazing through by Grobler and Cadnam were finally dismissed for 155.
Hythe were pretty confident that Cadnam were probably 50 runs or so light but ran in to troubles of their own in the chase, Kev James 6 was bowled by Collicoat, and when the Aussie then quickly removed Dixon 2 and Kendrick 1, Hythe were in trouble at 12-3, but Hythe who had slipped to a similar position last game again responded well this time with Rob James and Simon Wright batting well and taking the home side to 54 before Wrighty fell to Costin for a good looking 23. The in form Nardus Grobler joined James and the pair turned the game Hythe's way slowly increasing the rate and hitting boundaries at important times, as they took Hythe to 112 before somewhat surprisingly Rob fell for 39, and when the impressive Collicoat in his final over removed Whitlock 0 at 119-5 the game was back in the balance, however Grobler was now in total control and blasted balls to all parts when Froggett fell for 2 the score was already on 144 and Nardus had raced through 50. Luke Mills despite a near comedy run out stayed with Nardus who dispatched another 6 to take Hythe to 150 and the following over he brought Hythe home finishing on a brilliant 73 not out from just 60 balls.
