BASHLEY RYDAL vs UNDER 17'S
Thursday 2nd August

Champions Too Strong For Depleted U17's
A team short of four regular players and captained for the first time by Ben Smith performed valiantly against the usual strong Bashley side who have won this league for the third consecutive season without losing a game.
After winning the toss and electing to field Hythe bowled well enough with Pete Stevens Jnr and Ben Smith particularly economical on the artificial pitch. Five wickets were taken with catches for Sam Mead and Ben Smith who also clean bowled one victim, a stumping from Matt Howe and a run out by Johnathan Pearson as Bashley were restricted to 104 from their 18 overs.
With four batsmen missing Hythe opened with Matt Stark and Johnathan Pearson who found the fast accurate bowling difficult to score off but they survived until the 10th over. However Matt Howe and Ben Smith found scoring runs equally difficult such that when Smith was adjudged LBW in the16th over the score was only 27for 3. Richard Last then decided it was time to enjoy the final two overs striking seven boundaries in his quick-fire 31 not out and in so doing earning a batting point as Hythe finished on 60 for 3 from 18 overs.
