TOUR TWENTY20 MATCH

HYTHE XI Vs CHEAM ( SURREY )

Cheam Beat Hythe For Second Year.

Cheam recorded their third ever tour victory last night - unfortunately two of them have been against a Hythe XI. But the Hythe youngsters put in a very good performance particularly in the field and the fading light paid a big part in Hythe's run chase.

Cheam batted first and showed their experience of Twenty20 cricket by going for the shots from the start. Pete Stevens jnr got Hythe off to a goos start picking up a wicket in the first over.Howrood and Ray then put on a good partnership before Horwood was caught behind by Simon Wright off Richard Last who then picked up a second wicket quickly afterwards having Galipeau caught by Grobler for 1.

Lee Powell replaced Pete Stevens and bowled Ray for 39 in his first over. Fisher and Ovens then added 20 before Ovens was stupmed by Wright of Beefy Smith. A late rally by Kinkton 25* and Aiston 10* brought Cheam to 135 for 6 off their twenty overs. All credit to Hythe though the fielding was excellent and the majority of Cheams runs were scored over the top which is what to expect from Twenty20 cricket.

Skipper Grobler then decided to hold himself back and give youth a chance. Wright opened with James Page but both openers went early. Richard Knights followed for 7 but then we saw a small partnership develop between Matt Howe and Tom Porter. As the sun faded and it got increasingly darker Porter was then bowled for 10 and Matt Howe trying to increase the run rate was caught for a good 19. This brought Grobler to the crease but by that time in fading light Hythe needed 9 an over. Grobler skied one for 1 and despite a small partnership between Lee Powell and Kev James 11, Hythe ended on 101 for 9 and recorded a 34 run loss. Lee Powell continued his fine weekend with the bat finishing on 19 not out.

Thanks to Cheam for travelling up from Bournemouth for a Twenty20 - I promise you guys next year you won't be bragging about another tour win.
