Ellingham Dent Hythe's Title Push

ELLINGHAM II vs Hythe & Dibden 2nd XI

at Ellingham 14.07.07

On a very wet pitch Hythe won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The usual tight opening spells reduced Ellingham to 50 for 5 from 22 overs but some good batting and indifferent bowling in the last 20 overs allowed the home team to finish 130 all out in the 42nd over. S Miller and S Tongs both took one catch and a run out. G Howe took two catches and M Edwards one. I White and P Stevens jnr each bowled one victim and there was one LBW.

In reply Hythe were 53 for 1 at the 22 over mark but a failure to accelerate the scoring after drinks meant that by the end of the 36th over the score had only reached 100 for 3 which, on a pitch that up to that point had only yielded three runs per over, meant that the asking rate for the later batsmen of 5 per over was too high.

The last pair were left needing to score 9 from the final six balls but unfortunately P Stevens jnr was clean bowled making Ellingham the victors by 8 runs.
