MIDWEEK TOUR / CRICKET

Wednesday July 4th Vs MESSINGHAM (Lincolnshire)

Weather Creates 2 Match Twenty20 Day & Hythe Fight Back to Level

Messingham arrived to heavy showers and the captains keen to get a game in for the visitors decided to play 2 games of Twenty 20 Matches weather permitting.

In the first game Hythe fielded first and after B.Walker 50 and D.Rands 30 had put the visitors in a very strong positiion at 106 for 2 off 15 overs, Nardus Grobler and Mike Edwards 2-10 pegged them back to 136 for 3 off their 20 overs.

Hythe's reply was shocking as they were all out for just 61 in 14.3 overs. It would have been much worse but for Nico Raubenheinar 40 who was borrowed from Totton & Eling for the day. The Hythe guys seemed more interested in the play station in the clubhouse than the cricket which was disappointing.

Game 1 Scorecard

Innings of : MESSINGHAM 136 FOR 3 (18 Overs)

(B.Walker 50*, D.Rands 30*)

Hythe Bowling

Innings of : HYTHE 61 All Out (14.3 Overs)

Game 2

After tea Hythe batted first in the second game and soon had Taylor, Mills and Porter back in the pavillion with just 16 on the board. But Mike Edwards and Raubenheinar decided to make a game of it and put on 70 for the 4th wicket before Edwards was out for 32. Tongs then joined Raubenheinar and the pair continued pushing the score along before Raubenheinar was run out for 43 with an two overs to go. Grobler was out next ball but Tongs 19* and Lee Powell 2* took the score to 118 for 6 at the end of Hythe's 18 overs.

Messingham hoping to rap the game up quickly got off to a strong start taking 27 off the first 4 overs. Then in the 5th over Tom Porter bowled Snee for 17. 3 overs later Russell Moore had Johnson well caught by Raubenheinar on the boundary and 9 runs later Langford was run out by Raubenheinar - Messingham 43 for 3 off 8 overs.

Hythe's fielding was good and the bowling tight. Messingham hit 16 off Lee Powell's 4 overs but they all came in singles, Matt Stark surprisingly bowling at the other end went for just 5 off his first over. In his next 2 wickets - first he bowled Robinson for 15 and then Punchey Mills held a catch on the short boundary to dismiss Cook for 4. Messingham now 57 for 5 and the Hythe lads were up for a close game. 2 more wickets fell in Powells last over leaving Messingham 76 for 7 needing 42 to win off 5 overs.

Tongs turned to Alan Taylor instead of Edwards to bowl the last 3 overs uphill leaving Nardus Grobler to bowl 2 down. Taylors first went for 8 but he got the wicket of Dalton with his last ball. Grobler went for 3 and the visitors were 88 for 8 off 17 overs. 6 off the 18th - 94 for 8 needing 24 off 2. Raubenheinar then run out Walker for 1 and 99 for 9. The last over started with Messingham needing 20. 3 singles off the first three balls and then Taylor struck bowling Lawmer for 28 and Hythe had won by 16 runs.

Well done to both sides for playing in and out of the showers and in a very good spirit. Well done to the Hythe lads for fighting back after a very poor first match in tricky conditions. Well done to loany Nico Raubenheinar how he doesn't get in Totton & Elings first team is beyond me - 43-40-4 cathces and 2 run outs a good afternoons work.

Innings of : HYTHE 118 for 6 (18 Overs)

Innings of : MESSINGHAM 102 All Out (19.4 Overs)
