Hythe’s Under 11’s Struggle to Hit Top Form

Hythe’s Under 11’s again found the going tough in Sundays encounter with Totton and Elings under 11 side at Jones lane, Hythe.

Missing strike bowler Kieran Chalmers who was unavailable because of New Forest District side commitments this week, Hythe’s bowlers struggled to make in roads into a Totton side and keep the runs down.

Hythe won the toss and Josh skipper this week decided to insert Totton on Hythes bouncy artificial strip and even though 2 wickets in an over by Mark Reid could not prevent Totton’s opening pair put on a solid start and finishing on 215 after 4 overs. In the 5th over a Nathan Froggett run out reduced the score temporarily but helped by some wayward Hythe bowling the second pair from totton increased the score to 234 after 8 overs with only 1 run coming of the bat.

Tottons 3rd pair again batted solidly and put on a further 17runs were added again aided by extras but this time no wickets were lost and they finished on 251 after 12 overs. Hythe were facing a big score to chase and it was just as well Nathan and connor both took wickets in the final 4 overs as Tottons last pair showed great running skills as they looked to push on the score it finally finish on 259 as the Hythe’s bowlers finally found their radars and reduced the wide count. Total extra’s conceeded 67 run’s.

Hythe s opening pair Mark and Josh started brightly 5 of the 1st over 2 of the next but it was apparent Totton’sopening bowlers were not keen to give runs away easily and bowled very straight and with some pace. Mark clean bowled and a run out dented the score but the 2 batted positively scoring 11 runs of the bat but finishing on 207 after 4 overs.

Connor and nathan followed and both struggled this week to find the shots that would find the boundary and propel the score forward quickly mixed in their 4 overs 2 run outs would cost the pair dearly and they finished on 210 after 8.

Alex and Jack made up the 3rd pair and between them batted sensibly throughout their innings, alex cracking a ball to the boundary to lift the spirits of the large home support. 219 of 12 a large task of Jason and Richard was required.

The pair cracked 16 runs of the bat the highest of the day Richard 10 Jason 6 including a leg glance for 4 the shot of the day by any batsman on show. 2 run outs halted the onslaught but it was pleasing to the eye for the spectators.

Final total 231 extras conceded by Totton 30runs

Coaches view: difference today were the extras conceeded by the bowlers, Totton scored 17 runs of the bat, Hythe scored 36. You could argue that had we bowled straighter, would they have scored more of the bat, maybe maybe not but again there wasn’t a lot off difference between the two sides…. Work on the bowling aspect to come I fear….Good game though…..
