Sunday June 17th Vs LYMINGTON

Played @ The Lymington Sports Centre

Hythe batted first opening with Mike Bowman and Tom Porter. The innings started slowly with most of the runs coming from extras in the first few overs and Grierson bowling 3 consecutive maidens. Porter was then bowled for 1 which bought Nardus Grobler in to bat. He and Bowman put on a partnership of 73 before Bowman was bowled for 11. In the following 5 overs the middle order collapsed and Hythe found themselves at 106-6. An in form Luke Mills then came in to join Grobler and the pair put on a partnership of 87 which included Grobler getting to a century. In the final over of the innings Grobler was caught for 110 but 12 runs, including a 6 from Mills, still came from the over and Hythe finished on a competitive 201-7 with Mills having scored 44*.

Richie Froggett and Pete Stevens JNR opened the bowling though neither had much success and Lymington’s openers, A. Hunt (45) and S. Coltman (20), seemed to be scoring relatively quickly. Shane Watson and Grobler then came on to bowl and between them they claimed the wickets of Lymington’s first 3 batsmen. This brought S. Raphael and C. Grierson in to bat. Raphael looked dangerous with 36 of his 42 runs coming from boundaries but Mills had him caught by Froggett in his third over. Grierson carried on scoring runs but he was losing partners at the other end, numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 only having scored 3 between them. With 5 overs left of the match Lymington had 11 to get but Hythe only needed 1 wicket as a Lymington player had been injured whist fielding so couldn’t bat. Although Hythe bowled 2 consecutive maidens, with 3 overs to go, Grierson managed to get on strike and hit a 6 and a 4 to both win the game and take him to 50*. All in all it was a close game played in good spirit which even the weather failed to ruin.
