Bowman' s Men Off See Off Pylewell Park

Hythe made it 2 wins in 2 in this seasons New Forest Cup which is held on a 6 team league basis with the top two going through to the finals.

Hythe won the toss and batted first. Sean Tongs and Matt Howe opened and got Hythe off to a good start, taking 12 from the first over which included 2 consecutive fours from Howe to get him off the mark. The opener from the other end bowled more economically but Howe and Tongs kept the score ticking over and Hythe had reached 50 by the 7^th over.

Pylewell Park didn’t get a wicket until the 12^th over when Howe was caught for 39. Not long after Tongs was then bowled for 31 but the loss of wickets didn’t seem to affect the scoring rate. In the 14^th over Mike Edwards was bowled for 5 and then the following ball Mike Bowman was also bowled but these were the last wickets Hythe were to lose. Wayne Effeny (21*) and Gary Howe (11*) batted out the innings and Hythe finished up on 126-4.

Mike Edwards and Pete Stevens JNR opened the bowling for Hythe. Neither bowled badly but Pylewell’s openers T. Mapes and S. Sterling batted aggressively. Hopes were raised when Chalky White caught Mapes from Steven’s first ball but after some complaint from the batman the umpires signalled a no-ball. Hythe’s luck changed when Chalky came on to bowl. In his second over he had Mapes caught and bowled for 25 and then Sterling caught by Powell for 34 the next ball. Once Hythe had removed Pylewell’s openers, the scoring rate dropped and wickets fell at regular intervals. Hythe caught well in the field with under 17 Lee Powell claiming 3 catches and Chalky, Matt Howe and Sean Tongs 1 apiece. Pylewell finished up on 111- 7 with Hythe winning by 15 runs.
