HYTHE MARCH ON WITH ANOTHER IMPRESSIVE CHASE

Hythe & Dibden 1st XI Vs BEDHAMPTON

09.06.07

A clash of two of the leagues betters sides saw Hythe complete a fourth straight win with an excellent 4 wicket win against Bedhampton at Jones Lane, in a game played in great spirit, a credit to both sides.

Si Dixon yet again won the toss and inserted Bedhampton on a good looking strip at Joes Lane, and initially the plan looked to have back fired as the visitors got off to a flyer putting on 40 from the first 7 overs, before Richie Froggett made the breakthrough, bowling Chilton. Bedhampton though pushed on with Wake and S.Gardner taking the score to 84, and Hythe were looking a little flat in the field but Keith Alderman then got rid of Wake for 29, M.Hovey joined Gardner as the visitor passed the 100 mark and were starting to look ominously dangerous before Nardus Grobler returned and bowled Hovey 12 and Layman 0 in the space of 3 balls and Hythe were suddenly right back in the hunt.

Froggett came back in to the attack just as Bedhampton had lifted the tempo again passing 150 but Froggett knocked over Gardiner for a hard fought 59 and Carter 27 in the space of two balls before picking up his 4th wicket as the visitors slipped to 163-7, Ben Kendrick who had also returned to the attack and finished off the Bedhampton innings picking up 3 wicket in four balls as Hythe dismissed the visitors for 183 in a great fight-back by the home side, against a useful batting side.

Kev & Rob James put on 35 for the first wicket before Rob fell for 9 to Gardner, but Kev and skipper Si Dixon took Hythe on to 72 then A.Gardner removed Kev James for 31, more problem the befell the home side as Dixon who was again looking in good touch gloved a lifter into his eye and had to retire hurt and Simon Wright managed just 4 before being caught behind at 88. Kendrick and Grobler came to the crease for a crucial partnership and batted superbly putting on 52 to swing the game back in Hythe favour at 140 Grobler fell for 20 caught in the deep, but Froggett came in and played shots to all parts hitting 4 boundaries in a brisk 27 run partnership with Kendrick.

At 167 Froggett became Carter's second wicket plumb lbw for 17, Si Dixon returned to the wicket and with Hythe comfortably up with the run rate Kendrick who was now winning the game for Hythe clattered his third 6 as the home closed in on victory. Dixon fell chasing a wide with just 3 required but his gutsy 33 had got Hythe back in the game, and shortly afterwards Kendrick brought up his 50 with a boundary to see Hythe home to a great 4 wicket win with 11 balls to spare.
