Hythe Cruise To 9 Wicket Win At Leckford
Leckford Vs. Hythe & Dibden
02.06.07
Hythe 1st XI won a third straight game with a comprehensive and thoroughly efficient performance against Leckford.
Another toss win by Simon Dixon so no surprise when he elected to bowl first even without his full compliment of bowlers available. Hythe got on top from the start as Leckford found both the bowling and pitch difficult to deal with, Richie Froggett struck first for Hythe assisted by a good catch from Rob James and shortly afterwards Nardus Grobler reduced Leckford to 27-2 bowling the other opener.
The home side were struggling along at just 2 an over and putting no pressure on Hythe's bowlers and when Dixon turned to Ben Kendrick and Simon Wright they maintained Hythe's stranglehold, with just 39 coming off the bat from the next 20 overs for the loss of two wickets, both to Kendrick. L.Richardson played well for 14 before falling to the returning Froggett at 76, and Kendrick in top form struck twice more in his last over finishing with 4-22 from 12 overs as Leckford were reduced to 73-7, Leckford captain battled hard for 12 before being caught at slip by Kendrick from Grobler's bowling and at 91 Grobler picked up his third wicket. Hythe though surprisingly could not finish off the Leckford innings as a spirited 21 not out from P.Bradbury lifted the home side to 117-9 from their 45 overs, a score disappointingly assisted by another 21 wides, but overall another fine bowling and fielding effort.
Kev and Rob James found things no easier when they opened Hythe innings especially against the accurate Bradbury, but batted sensibly picking up on anything loose and although the scoring rate was pretty slow, they put Hythe in to a winning position with a 62 partnership. Just as they had started to take control Kev fell for 30, but Simon Dixon came in and found his touch straight away as he immediately lifted the scoring rate and although Hythe were helped from some lax fielding from the home side he and Rob James took Hythe past the 100 mark from 34 overs, James had just enough time to bring up a hard fought and well deserved 50 before Dixon sealed the game with another impressive boundary to finish 33 not out from just 36 balls, bringing Hythe to a fine 9 wicket win at 120-1.
