HYTHE TOPPLE EARLY LEAGUE LEADERS
Hythe & Dibden 1st XI Vs PYLEWELL PARK
26.05.07
Hythe completed back-to-back wins by beating the early leaders of the County 2 division Pylewell Park by 6 wickets.
After losing the toss, Hythe were put into field and opened the bowling with the usual combination of Nardus Grobler and Richie Froggett. Both of them bowled tight opening spells, Froggett starting off with 4 consecutive maidens. In just the 7th over, Grobler got the first breakthrough bowling J. Royan for 0 then 2 overs later struck again, dismissing the other opener, T. Gates (0) who was caught in the covers by Allan Taylor. Soon after Froggett then had C. L. Kitcher (5) caught brilliantly by Dave Guymer at square leg. By the end of the opening spell of 13 overs, Pylewell Park had just 22 runs on the board. Keith Alderman and Ben Kendrick then came into the attack with Alderman getting early success having W. Royan (6) caught behind by Kev James in his second over. Pylewell Park’s number 5, C. Brooks (52) put up some resistance with some powerful shots on the onside but was caught by Luke Mills at deep mid on off Alderman’s bowling. With C. M. Kitcher (24) and M. Hardiman (33) starting to look dangerous at the crease, Kendrick had Kitcher bowled on the first ball of his second spell before he could do anymore damage. Froggett’s final 2 overs finished successfully, taking the last 3 wickets and restricting Pylewell to 171 all out.
With Robbie James missing, Captain Simon Dixon opened the batting with Kev James but was bowled in the 5th over for only 3 runs. This then bought Simon Wright to the crease who along with James gave Hythe a solid start by putting together a partnership of 101. In the 33rd over James was bowled for 51 by T. Gates and just a few balls later Wright was then caught for 51 which put an end to a great partnership in which both played some lovely shots. Ben Kendrick and Dave Guymer then came into bat but after a small misunderstanding Guymer was run out for 2. With 36 left to get from 9 overs, Kendrick continued playing some powerful shots making short work of knocking off the remaining runs and was well supported by Nardus Grobler who hit the winning runs in the 41st over, Kendrick finishing on 37 not out and Grobler on 18*.
