Seconds Cruise To Fourth Consecutive Win

Mudeford III Vs. Hythe & Dibden 2nd XI

at Highcliffe 26.05.07

A strong all round performance took Hythe 2nd XI to 4 wins in 4 and upto third place in the Regional West Divison 3 table.

Next week Hythe face top of the table Sway in which one 100% record has to go.

Hythe won the toss and asked Mudeford to bat first. The openers got off to a brisk start reaching 32 in the 7^th over before Rich Bunce (11 overs 5 for 62) and Mike Edwards (12overs 2 for 26) made the breakthrough which then saw 2 more batsmen depart at the same score. Wickets then fell steadily along with the odd flurry of boundaries before Wayne Effeny (5.4 overs 3 for 6) polished off the innings, Muddeford scoring 142 from 36 overs. Catches being taken by Rich Bunce (2), Wayne Effeny, Pete Stevens snr, Sean Tongs and Gary Howe.

In reply Sean Tongs (61) and Matt Howe (32) never looked in trouble racing to 92 by the 17^th over before Matt was unluckily run out backing up at the bowlers end when a return catch off Tongs was spilled by the bowler on to the stumps. Sean was then bowled by a shooter with the score on 104. Wayne Effeny (21*) and Mike Edwards (24*) then saw Hythe safely home within 27 overs for an eight wicket victory.

In the willow and Stumpy awards no 6’s were hit and Mike Edwards bowled two batsmen and Wayne Effeny and Rich Bunce one each.
