Damp Conditions - No Problem For The Veterans

Hythe & Dibden 2nd XI vs SUTTONERS

at Hythe 12.05.07

On a very damp wicket Hythe lost the toss and not surprisingly were asked to bat first. The progress made by Sean Tongs and Matt Howe was slow but steady with the first wicket falling in the eighteenth over with the score on 55. This platform proved invaluable as attacking shots were always risky and with wickets in hand the later batsmen were able to play with more freedom. Wayne Effeny particularly accelerated the scoring with a brisk 46 to be the top scorer. Hythe were eventually all out in the 42^nd over for 193 runs, a total which in the conditions was better than expected.

In reply Mike Edwards (12 overs 3 for 28), Rich Bunce (8 overs 0 for 20) and Darren Miller ( 7 overs 1 for 15) all bowled very economically not allowing Suttoners any easy runs. This set the stage for wily off spin of Pete Stevens who made an immediate impact with 2 wickets in his first over, 1 in his 5^th and 2 more in his 6^th over to finish with figures of 6 overs 5 for 23. Wayne Effeny wrapped up the Suttoners innings by taking the last wicket with the score on 109 giving Hythe a victory by 84 runs.

So a good all round team performance by Hythe with Catches taken by Tongs, Bunce, Miller, Bowman and G Howe, who also claimed 2 stumpings.

In the Clubs Willow and Stumpy awards the stumps were hit once each by Edwards and Effeny and one 6 each were hit by Effeny and G Howe
