at Exbury 05.05.07

Hythe Seconds got there league season underway with a comfortable 9 wicket win at Exbury against Camelot.

Hythe won the toss and elected to bowl first on a wicket which displayed considerable variation in bounce. Rich Bunce and Mike Edwards bowled a consistent line and length restricting Camelot to 26 for 2 of the first 16 overs, with “Bunchy” claiming both wickets clean bowled.

Steve Miller and Wayne Effeny then took over with Wayne consistently beating the bat without any luck. Steve did manage to trap their dogged opener LBW before the spin twins “Chalky” White and Pete Stevens came on to claim a wicket each and finally the returning Mike Edwards had the sixth wicket to fall, caught behind by Gary Howe, leaving Camelot on 150 for 6 at the end of their 42 overs.

In reply Hythe started cautiously before Sean Tongs holed out to cover in the 7th over with the score on 14. This bought Wayne Effeny to the crease to join Matt Howe and together they constructed an unbeaten partnership of 137 to see Hythe to victory from 32.1 overs with Effeny finishing on 65 and Howe on 59.
