FIRST OF THE YEAR
ANOTHER MEMORABLE MATCH FROM THE PAST
Hythe & Dibden vs Gosport Borough
County Division 4 Match at Jones Lane, Hythe
16th August 1997
1997 and Hythe First XI had an excellent season finishing 4th in County 4,skipper Dave Danson toping the league batting averages and Paul Whitlock toping the league wickets & bowling averages.
So it was somewhat of a surprise that Hythe entertained Gosport in mid August with a make-shift side and only 10 players all this with promotion still a possibility.
However this mattered not as Hythe turned in an awesome performance crushing the visitors by 112 runs. Staurt Price and Ben Kendrick led the way with the bat both making 90's in a superb 180 run partnership, and then Paul Whitlock and Wayne Effeny ripped the heart out the top order of the Gosport batting reducing them to 26-5 from which they never recovered.
