Hythe & Dibden 2nd XI Vs Verwood - Sat 5th August 2006
With Mike Bowman's team chasing hard for promotion, a must win came against title chasing Verwod.
Batting first Verwood made a steady if unspectacular start against the bowling attack of Richard Bunce & Tim Bath before then struggling to 87-4 at drinks with Bunce picking up 3 wickets. Veteran slow bowler Peter Stevens produced a good spell of tight bowling 2-26 and his spell with another veteran, seamer Wayne Effeny kept Verwood to a gettable 167-8 on another good Hythe strip.
Hythe go off to an indifferent reply losing early wickets and after stumbling to 68-4 were in danger of letting the game slip away, but Ewan Bell came to the rescue playing a fine innings to keep Hythe in the hunt, aided by Bunce they turned the game back Hythe's way and despite a late flurry of wickets falling Bell kept his cool finishing unbeaten on 53 and guiding Hythe home to a very important 2 wickets victory.
