ANOTHER MEMORABLE MATCH FOR THE PAST
Hythe & Dibden vs Crown Taveners
at Crown Taveners
Sat 26th June 1999
Its back to 1999 and a First XI game that will not be easily
forgotton by
those playing in it. Hythe having suffered relagation in 1998,
had a new
Captain and a new look side following the loss of a number of
players from
the previous season. After a good start to the season Hythe had
suffered 3
straight defeats so a must win game away at Crown Taveners.
Having won the toss Whits elected to bat first on a hot and sunny
afternoon.
Hythe reached 47-2 and with the game evenly poised Mike Edwards
and Simon
Crowe put on a decisive 92 partnership and Edwards continued to
dominate the
bowling hitting his maiden league century making an excellent 104
as Hythe
posted a very competetive 219-8. In reply Crown Taveners were
stunned as
Mike Bowman blew way their top order and with Ian White, Mike
Edwards and
Paul Whitlock all taking wickets the Taveners slipped from 43-4
at drinks to
67-6 and finally to a very unhappy (I will leave it at that) 126
all out.
