ANOTHER MEMORABLE MATCH FOR THE PAST

'and one of the best'

Presidents Cup Semi-Final

Calmore vs Hythe & Dibden

at Calmore Sports Ground, 19th June 2000

Hythe at the time playing in County 4, progressed to the semi finals of the Presidents Cup after beating Southern League New Milton and were now drawn up against stronger Southern League opposition in Calmore Sports.

This match had everything big hitting, top fielding, and some good old banter and tension both on and off the field.

Hythe arrived at Calmore and after Whits as usual lost the toss and
exchanged team sheets Calmore asked if they could bring in a couple of their
players who they thought could not make the match, Whits had no problem's
with this despite a sudden change of skipper as James Hibberd arrived late
stepped in and the original skipper dropped out of the game altogether.

Some excellent bowling and fielding by the County 4 side despite two Hythe
fielders ending up at casualty with damaged limbs. Paul Whitlock led the
bowling knocking over both openers and was brilliantly supported by Matt
Lefroy, Richie Froggett, Dave Ryan & Mike Edwards as Hythe kept Calmore to a
respectable 118-4, S.Bailey top scoring for Calmore with an unbeaten 36.

In reply Hythe made a good start putting on 35 for the first wicket and were
always in the hunt despite losing Lee Fraser for 31 as Kev James 49 no took
control of the game but a mid order wobble left Hythe on tender hooks and
suddenly needing 13 from the final over but Kev slammed two 4's and two 2's
and a scrambled single with Dave Ryan off the final ball saw Hythe home to
superb victory.
