Most Memorable Games - 2 & 3

Match 2 & 3 . Of Out Most Memorable Games comes from May 1999

A Tribute to the efforts Billy Ogle put in over Five Seasons.

Vs Alton.

Billy Ogle was an unsung hero between 1997 and 2002 when he captained both the Third XI and then later the Second XI.

For some seasons he was known to have used upto forty players in a season just to keep the sides going. Initially based at the Marchwood Army Camp - Ogles contacts were endless as week after week he found himself lending out players to the more senior sides. The First team skippers were quick to praise Ogle for his support to the First XI and without him the club would have struggled to complete fixtures.

During the 2002 season when Billie's shoulder was preventing him throwing and restricting him holding a bat he decided to step down as skipper and from playing but for the past 6 seasons he had given everything to our club.

The two matches below are from the New Forest Stones Cup during the 1999 season when Hythe reached their first cup final for 17 years. Sadly we were completely out played in the final against New Milton.

STONES CUP QUARTER FINALS

Vs MILFORD ON SEA

On a breezy night down at Barnes Lane Hythe reduced the home side to 95 for 9 thanks largely to the bowling of S.Berry 3-10 and I.White 3-28. R.Wilkins made the biggest contributionfor Milford before bwing run out for 40.

In reply Hythe got off to a good start through Trevor Vaughan 17 and Steve LeGrandes 13 but the wickets started to fall at a quick rate and Hythe were 55 for 6 off 13 overs still needing 42 off 5 overs. But with the light fading Billy Ogle 26 not out and Rob Hempton 12 not out saw Hythe home with 2 balls to spare as Ogle hit the winning runs with a six when the game looked over.
