ECB DIRECTIVE ON COLTS IN ADULT CRICKET

By Ann & Gary Howe - August 31 2006
DURING THE PAST SEASON WE MADE A COMMITTMENT TO INTRODUCE AS MANY COLTS INTO ADULT CRICKET AS POSSIBLE. WE HAVE ACHIEVED THIS WITH GREAT SUCCESS. --------HOWEVER------ ATTACHED IS AN ECB DIRECTIVE ON HOW COLTS SHOULD BE TREATED WHILST PLAYING ADULT CRICKET FOR OUR CLUB.

I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A SIMPLE POINT WHICH IS NOT OPEN TO COMMENT OR NEGOTIATION BECAUSE IT IS A DIRECTIVE COMING FROM THE ECB.

If you want your club to have colts playing then they need to be treated with respect.

They must NOT be coerced into doing anything they do not want to.

They must NOT be encouraged to drink alcohol and ONLY responsible drinking by adults should occur whilst they are present.

Clubs will be required to put into place rules and guidelines to make this part of their constitution otherwise they will not be allowed to have colts playing.

If you want your club to thrive and prosper the behaviour of a few over the last month or so cannot continue.

Think hard about how you talk to and treat the colts around you, they are doing their best.
