'ONE GAME TOO MANY' IN HECTIC WEEKEND

Hythe completed their cricket season with a 40 over fixture against Leicestershire Touring Side - Laughton & Mowsley.

On paper the Hythe side looked decent enough despite the late pull outs of Paul Whitlock and Kev James.

Al Taylor captained the side hoping to maintain his 100% record.

Taylor invited the opposition to choose what they wanted to do and opted to bat first.

Nardus Grobler opened the bowling with Pete Stevens junior but early signs were clear that the long weekend had taken its toll and he was suffering with his achilles and came off after just two overs.

Stevens meanwhile bowled well and with Mike Bowman replacing Grobler Hythe took two early wickets. Then when Rob James took two quick wickets the visitors were 86 for 4 and the game was evenly balanced.

Taylor tried to shuffle the bowling around as much as possible due to tired legs but with three key contributions by Prowles 65, Boucher 50 and Gafevmuch 48 Laughton made full use of a good batting strip and finished on 254 for 7 off 40 overs.

The best of the Hythe bowlers Robbie James 2-29 off 5 and Pete Stevens jnr 2-34 off 7 but with the Hythe bowlers giving away 22 no balls and 10 wides they contributed well to the opoositions score themselves.

Hythe tried to bolster their chances by filling the opposition up with a big tea before going out to field.

Al Taylor and Nardus Grobler started well but ...... ( skipper won't let me say anything ). Taylor out for 11 and Hythe 42 for 1.

After 10 overs Hythe were 56 for 2 with Page also back in the pavillion for 4. Tongs and Grobler got started but then both got out before the half way stage leaving Hythe 81 for 4 off 20 and a lot to do. Grobler top scored with 35.

Wickets then fell at frequent intervals with only Guymer 11, Rob James 20 and Luke Mills 19 not out getting into double figures. Hythe ended their final innings of the season on 156 for 9 off 40 overs resulting in a heavy defeat of 101 runs. Take off the no balls and wides and it doesn't look so bad.
