HYTHE SUNDAY XI VS BEDHAMPTON
Sunday 20th August
Hythe Bounce Back In Style To Rout Bedhampton
After the difficulties of last Sunday, Hythe were determined to put in a good show against Bedhampton, and did not disappoint with a fine 6 wicket victory.
Batting first Bedhampton had reached 22 before Luke Mills brilliantly caught the dangerous M.Hovey for 17 off the bowling of Lee Powell, and then Keith Alderman struck immediately with the score still on 22.
Bedhampton's D.Clark hit a belligerent 28 but the Hythe bowlers kept to good areas on a wicket helping them. Alderman grabbed another couple of wickets as Bedhampton fell to 55-6 and Rob James continued his run of form with the ball on Sundays adding 3 more wickets to his tally before Mills wrapped up the Bedhampton innings for a disappointing 105, Nardus Grobler celebrating with 4 catches at mid-on.
Hythe's reply got off to a poor start against some hostile bowling from Layman and Gardner as Hythe lost Bowman, Miller and Moore with just 12 on the board.
The recovery when it came though was swift and decisive with Tongs and Grobler taking the score quickly to 82 before Tongs was stumped for 25. Grobler was joined by Mills and he finished off the game in the 22nd over hitting a superb unbeaten 63, with Mills 2 not out.
A great effort from the Hythe team.
With the game over by 6pm Bedhampton asked if Hythe fancied a 12 over game and the home side duly accepted. Hythe batted first reversing their batting order to give everyone a game and posted a competitive 111-6, Keith Alderman hitting 30 at the top of the innings, and again Grobler 32* & Tongs 16* coming in lower down doing well.
Bedhampton however with their top player all coming in at the top of the innings were determined to make amends and got home in the last over, Powell 1-16 and Grobler 0-11 the most economical of Hythe's bowlers.
A great days cricket played in excellent spirit. Well done Bunchy & the boys.
