HYTHE FIRST XI Vs BEDHAMPTON

12th August

Hythe Maintain Promotion Push With Another Maximum Point Haul

And move Upto Fourth.

Toss Won by : Hythe

On a blustery day at Jones Lanes 5th place Hythe were hosting 6th place
Bedhampton in a must win match for the home team still chasing an unlikely
3rd place spot and possible promotion.

On winning the toss Bedhampton elected to bat which suited Hythe as their
bowling attack has been on fire the last few games, but the Hythe track
offered very little to the bowlers as Bedhampton put on 54 for the first
wicket, and although Ben Kendrick removed both openers in his first spell,
both to good catches from Richie Froggett & Kev James not much else seemed
to be going Hythe's way. At 137 the returning Richie Froggett made a triple
breakthrough aided by two good catches from Rob James including S.Chilton 51
and at 170 a direct throw from Nardus Grobler brought Hythe their 6th
wicket. With now just 4 overs to spare Bedhampton pushed on but Kendrick
struck again with yet another fine catch this time from Paul Whitlock,
Bedhampton reached 201 for 7 with the final over pending, but then Kendrick
pulled off a superb hat-trick, first a catch to Rob James, his third, then a
stumping by Kev James followed and next ball plumb lbw. Bedhampton finished
on 201 and Kendrick had suddenly ended with the excellent figures of 6-47.

Hythe's chase started as per their last two matches in a blur of shots and
boundaries as the James boys looked to put Hythe in a commanding position as
soon as possible and things were going to plan until at 87, Kev James fell
for a hard hitting 60 when yet again set for a huge score, then Si Dixon was
run out without addition to the score. Simon Wright joined Rob and they took
the score to 99 before Rob fell for 28. Wright and Kendrick then took the
score to 117 but unfortunately Wrighty who had just hit back to back fours
and the a huge 6 inexplicably missed a straight full toss from Bedhampton's
leggie when looking set on 21. Hythe pushed on to 135 from 30 overs before
Dave Guymer fell for 5, so with 15 overs to go Hythe needed 67 and Kendrick
was joined by Grobler, at 145 Kendrick 20 became the 6th Hythe wicket to
fall and Whitlock came in with 57 to win, he and Grobler played sensibly
keeping the scoring rate to never much more than 5 an over and things looked
good until Grobler was caught playing a big shot down the ground for well
made 25. Hythe now 173-7 and 29 needed with 5 overs to go and the game
seemed evenly poised, but Whitlock 30* had other ideas hitting a series of
boundaries and with Froggett 5* playing a support role, they took Hythe into
the 190's, with two overs to go and 8 runs to win Whitlock hit consecutive
boundaries to see the home team to victory with 10 balls to spare.

Another fine all round performance from Hythe and maximum points yet again.
