Mike Bowman won the toss and elected to bat first.
Sean Tongs (59) and Matt Howe (38) put on an opening stand of 91 before Howe was caught in the 21st over. This brought Wayne Effeny (74*) to the wicket who shared in a stand of 51 with Tongs until the 31st over when Tongs was bowled with the score at 142.
Mike Bowman (41*) joined Effeny and shared an unbroken stand of 89, allowing Hythe to finish on 231 for 2 a good score but on carpet that was giving nothing to the bowlers would it be enough?
Rich Bunce and Tim Bath continued their recent good form and bowled economically. At the half way mark Bashley were 67 for 3 at 21 overs still requiring 165 off 21 overs at 7.8 an over.Bath came off after 10 overs having bowled 2-22 off 10 whilst Bunce bowled out his 12 overs taking 1 for 49.
Things were about to change as Bashley which included many of their successful Under 17 side started to increase the pace.By the end of the 31st over they had taken the score along to 137 which was 5 runs behind where Hythe were at the same stage. They still required 95 runs to win off of 11 overs and Hythe were still favourites.
But with wickets in hand Bashley could afford to take chances and put pressure on the fielders. Catches went down and costly errors in the field and along the boundary started happen.
The normal reliable spin pair of White and Stevens had no luck and went for 49 runs off of 6 overs between them.
Hythe then relied on the experience bowling of Wayne Effeny and Mike Bowman to see them through.Wickets started to tumble with Bowman taking 3 and Effeny 1 thanks to catches from Tongs, Stevens and Gary Howe. Richie Bunce also provided a run out, but with 13 required of the last over Bashley got home with 2 balls to spare.
A disappointing end with the Hythe lads gutted and a result which looks to have secured Hythes place in Regional Division 3 for another year.
