Toss Won by : Hythe
Alan Taylor skipper for the day won the toss and offered the tourist the choice. Wilson elected to bat first on a bone dry pitch something they were looking forward to doing after playing on a sandpit at Christchurch the previous day.
The visitors found the going difficult early on as Keith Alderman 0-9 off 5 and Tim Bath 0-17 bowled very tightely.
Alderman beat the bat on several occasions and had three chances put down.
28-0 after 10 when Taylor brought on Steve Chiverton and Pete Stevens as changed bowlers. The Wilson batsman continued to struggle against Stevens but Tim Taylor started to take a shine to Chivertons bowling hitting him for 3 fours in his first two overs.
55-0 after 16.2 overs and then the breakthrough. Taylor tried it one to many times and Chiverton bowled him for 22.
Chiverton lasted five overs going for 1-18 before he was replaced by Luke Mills. Stevens finished his tidy spell of 6 overs 0-19. At the halfway mark Wilson were 66-1 and the call from the pavilion was to try and up the tempo.
Jeff Moore continued to bat well and reached his fifty just before Wilson lost their second wicket. Jamie Bowns was bowled by Russell Moore for 16. 2 runs later and it was the end of Moore for a very good 52, well caught by Luke Mills off the bowling of Russell Moore.97 for 3.
Geoff Pook and Tom Moore then tried to pick up the pace. Mills finished his spell from the top end 0-26 off 6 and Moore avery tidy 2-19 off 5. 32 overs gone Wilson 113 for 3.
Chalky White came on from the top end with Kev James electing to come up the hill.
James enjoyed a mixed first over with his first ball going for 4 then with his next he had Moore caught behind by Matt Howe for 12. That brought Choudhary to the crease of commonly known as Dhomi because he has to try and hit everything as James was about to find out.
The next four balls went for two singles, a four and a six. 34 overs gone 132 for 4.
Whites next over went for 8 before he had Choudhary stumped by Matt Howe for a three shot 14. First ball of the next over and another wicket - James has Caldwell caught by Mills for 0. 154 for 7.
Herd joined Firth and now it was time to up the tempo ( finally ) The pair put on 50 before Firth was run out by a fine throw from Dixon in the deep. Herd finished the innings on 34 not out with Ahmed 3 not out as Wilson ended their innings on 207 for 8. White finished with 5 overs 1-32 and James five overs 3-54.
In reply Hythe got off to the worse possible start when Si Dixon was out LBW first ball. But that was as good as it got for the tourists as Taylor and Tongs ( though he rode his luck early on ) put on a stand of 101 for the first wicket in only 22 overs.
Taylor made a very good 54 which included 8 fours off of 73 balls, before he was caught off the bowling of T.Taylor.( No relation )
That brought the Second XI opening pair together and allowed them to get some good practise in before Saturdays big game.
Tongs & Howe began to play some delightful shots and at the 30 over mark Hythe were 145 for 2. Tongs reached his 100 with a four and Hythe reached their target in the 38th over with Tongs finishing on 110 not out and Howe 37 not out. The pair had put on 110 in 15 overs. Tongs innings included 17 fours off 112 balls and Howe 6 fours off 34 balls.
A good victory in a match played in very good spirit with thanks to the opposition for supplying two umpires.
