29th July.

Hythe In The Promotion Race As They Crush South Wilts

With four weeks to go Hythe are one of eight teams competing in the promotion race of County 2.

On Saturday Hythe were in a real hurry to dispose of South Wilts and despite a delayed
start were ruthless in dispatching the hapless visitors for just 44, with
Paul Whitlock completing a dream comeback from injury with match winning
figures of 6-3.

Batting first after about a 30 min break from heavy drizzle South Wilts
openers looked to make a steady start against the pace attack of Grobler and
Froggett and had done reasonably well in getting past 20 before Grobler
struck, Whitlock taking a smart catch in the gulley, South Wilts had moved
in to the 30's when Froggett got his just rewards helped out by an excellent
catch by Dave Guymer. Si Dixon then made a double bowling change bringing on
Ben Kendrick and Whitlock and this turned out to be an inspired piece of
captaincy as Whitlock produced a devastating 4.2 over spell picking up 6
wickets for just 3 runs, he bowled 4 and had catches taken by Kev James and
Luke Mills, meanwhile Kendrick proved an excellent foil taking 2-6 from 5
overs, as a shell-shocked South Wilts were shot out for just 44.

Hythe started their reply before tea and were in no mood to let anything
slip with the James boys dominant from the first over and with the dark
clouds and a spot of rain in the air Rob 28* looking back to his best and
Kev 17* had the game wrapped up in just 9 overs as Hythe cruised to 45-0.
