HYTHE UNDER 15's
NEW FOREST LEAGUE
16th July Vs SWAY
YES - YES - YES - One Game To Go & Under 15's Win First Game.
After a gruelling season with lack of players and unavailability the Under 15's finally won their first game of the season on the last day of matches.
Ben Smith 32* played the anchor role to guide the team home.
Well done also to Sally for her persistance with the team.
Toss Won by Hythe
Lee Powell captained the side and won the toss - electing to field first.
7 came off the first over which was bowled by Porter but in the second Hythe had a stroke of luck when Mason was run out for 5.
In the 5th over Sway lost their second wicket when Porter had Harvey caught by Lee Powell for 9. Sway 27 for 3.
Porters four overs were expensive 1-32 whilst Luke Blackwell bowled very well 0-7 off 4.
Hythe badly needed to reduce the run rate and after Matt Starks 2 overs went for 14, Hythe's last 8 overs were very economical.
Ben Smiths 4 overs went for just 3 runs, also getting the wicket of Subdon 8 thanks to a catch from Tom Switzer. Lee Powell bowled 3 tidy overs for just 9 runs plus he caught & bowled the prize wicket of Steadman for 23.
Harry Smith also chipped in with 1 over which saw him go for just 1 run and get the wicket of Charton when he bowled him for 1. A second run our meant that Sway finished on 74 for 6 off their 18 overs. Now what a chance for the 15's to win their first game.
As usual Hythe got off to the worse possible start losing Blackwell 0 within the first 6 balls.
Matt Stark hung around to give Ben Smith good support. After 5 overs Hythe were 11 for 1 still need ing 64 from 13 overs.
Sway hit back getting Stark caught behind for 3 and Hythe were 15 for 2 off 7 overs. They just had to be careful now not to allow the overs to slip away.
Tom Porter came in at 4 and played his shots. He and Smith took the score to 41 before Porter was out for 16.
41 for 3 off 11 - Hythe still required 34 off 7. Lee Powell joined Smith and this time Smith started to open up. The pair took the score to 62 before Powell was out bowled by Bramwell for 3. Waller was out first ball and Hythe were wobbling at 62 for 5 still needing 13 to win from 3 overs.
Tom Switzer came in at 7 and he and Smith took Hythe to their first win with 8 balls remaining. Switzer finished on 6 not out whilst Ben Smith finished unbeaten on 32.
Hythe had won by 5 wickets - just reward after a long hard season.
