July 16th Sunday XI Vs ZOMBIES

In a close match Hythe lost to Zombies by 2wickets with 4 balls to spare.

Toss Won by Hythe

Richie Bunce won the toss and elected to bat first against their strong opponents from Waterlooville.

Matt Howe opened the innings with Steve Miller in the hope of spending some time in the middle after a few weeks off.

The young pair started well but with the score on 40 Miller was caught for 15.

Russell Moore joined his Under 17 colleague in the middle and the pair played some fine shots in taking the score to 118 before Howe was out for a fine 54. Grobler came in to hit a solid 24 and Moore was eventually out for 38.

Hythe lost Page, Tongs and Bath cheaply as they tried to pick up the pace but a quick fire 14* from Robbie James meant that Hythe declared at tea on 185 for 7.

Unlike Hythe Zombies placed the majority of their senior batsman at the top of the order. Hythe opned the bowling with the skipper himself who had bowled very well the previous day, and Dave Guymer who needs to bowl more frequently to keep his form up.

Both bowlers found the going tough - Guymer went for 24 off his 4 over whilst Bunce bowled 7 overts and had figures of 1-41.

Hythe got back into the game by taking some good catches and a run out from Tim Bath. The bowlers to benefit were Ben Smith 2-50 off 8 and Robbie James who bowled well for 11 overs taking 2-41. Tim Bath came on and snapped up 2 wickets in 5 overs for 14 runs but Hythe didn't quite have enough runs as the visitors got home with 4 balls to spare.

With all the dodgy fixtures about yet again Zombies gave us a good fixture on a very hot day.
