HYTHE & DIBDEN 2ND XI Vs SWAY
15th July 2006
SECONDS MAKE IT SIX WINS IN A ROW WITH STRONG TEAM PERFORMANCE
Toss Won by : Hythe
Hythe won the toss and elected to bat on a solid track. Matt Howe failed for once when he was caught off his mate Jack Walton for 0. Wayne Effeny and Sean Tongs then put on a crucial partnership before Tongs ( who never looked his fluent usual self was bowled for 26.
Hythe then lost Gary Howe and Mike Bowman in quick succession and there must have been concerns from the pavillion if Hythe were going to get to 170.
But Richie Bunce came in and looked very positive hitting the ball hard. But then a big wicket for Sway - Effeny was caught off the bowling of Clark for 69.
Alan Taylor joined Bunce and quick singles were on the agenda as Sway dropped their fielders deeper. The another blow Richie Bunce was out with a silly shot for 19 and quickly after Taylor went for 5.
With only a few overs to go Steve Miller played with a lot of maturity hitting the gaps for a fine 22 well supported by Tim Bath who chipped in with 8. Young James Page was joined by Chalky White for the last 2 overs and the pair put on a crucial partnership to take Hythe to 197 for 9 off their 42 Overs. Page finished on 12 not out hitting two lovely boundaries in the last over. Chalky finished on 5 not out.
In reply Sway got off to a healthy start but were then pinned down by some very good bowling by the two Hythe openers Bunce and Bath. Richie Bunce bowled 11 overs straight taking 2-25 with Bath bowling uphill taking 2-30 off 10 straight overs.
The fielders supported the bowlers very well and a very good catch by Matt Howe to dismiss one of the openers turned out to be the start of the end for Sway. Gary Howe picked up 2 catches plus a stumping whilst Sean Tongs got a catch and a run out. There were also catches for the skipper Mike Bowman and Chalky White.
Chalky White came onto replace Bath and took 2 wickets for 5 off 5.1 overs and Wayne Effeny took 3-12 off 5 overs as Sway tumbled to 73 all out in the 31st over.
This result gave the seconds six wins in a row and keeps them well in the hunt for promotion. But theres big decisions to be made this week for Mike Bowman as key players are missing from the First XI which could disrupt his team selection.
