HYTHE & DIBDEN 2nd XI

July 8th Vs NEW MILTON III

WINNING SPELL KEEPS GOING - THANKS TO EFFENY

HYTHE 2nd XI run of winning form keeps on rolling thanks largely to the form of veteran Wayne Effeny.

Rolling back the years Effeny scored a fine 55 with the bat and then helped himself to 6 for 30 with the ball.

Toss Won by : New Milton

New Milton won the toss and elected to bowl on a very green pitch. Run scoring was inevitably slow but an opening stand of 49 was finally broken in the 14^th over when Matt Howe (8) was caught behind. This brought Wayne Effeny to the wicket and he and Sean Tongs batted carefully taking the score to 82 in the 29^th over before Tongs (57) was caught in the covers. Effeny (55) went on to complete his half century before falling LBW in the acceleration at the end of the innings when 76 runs were added in the last 10 overs. Considering the conditions a total of 179 for 4 was an excellent effort.

In reply New Milton were able to keep up with the run rate initially but some very tight bowling, good catching and ground fielding kept up the pressure on the batsmen which inevitably produces wickets. Wayne Effeny took 6 for 30 as well as holding on to a catch. Other catches were held by Mike Bowman (2), Gary Howe (2), Sean Tongs and Ian White who also hit the stumps direct for a run out. New Milton were finally all out for 144 runs in the 41^st over leaving Hythe the victors by 35 runs.
