HYTHE & DIBDEN 1ST XI

Sat 8th July Vs NEW MILTON III

Hythe firsts completed back to back wins for the first time this season

against a very ordinary New Milton side with Nardus Grobler starring with

both bat and ball in the 71 run victory.

Toss Won by : HYTHE

Si Dixon on wining the toss elected, somewhat surprisingly following other
batting first performances, to have a bat first putting faith in his batsmen
to post a big score.

Unfortunately Hythe lost Rob James early on but Kev James and Simon Dixon
soon had the score moving in the right direction taking Hythe to 47 from 12
ovs before Kev was bowled for 25, Simon Wright then joined his skipper in a
fine partnership of 50 and both looked set for big innings but Dixon got a
good delivery being bowled for 33 by A.Snellgrove 3-36, and this led to a
mini collapse as Wright was then bowled for 36 and last weeks batting hero
Ben Kendrick was also bowled for just 7. Dave Guymer came out all guns
blazing, still in 20:20 mode and clattered 19 before chasing one to many and
Hythe had slipped from 102-2 to 136-6 and with the injured Whitlock not
playing a sensible approach was now needed and Nardus Grobler and Richie
Froggett did not disappoint picking up quick ones & twos they put the
pressure on the young inexperienced New Milton attack with a chanceless 41
partnership in 8 overs. At 177 Froggett was unfortunately run out but
Grobler who was now well set made amends striking the ball to all parts in
retaliation as Hythe passed 200 at 217 Grobler himself was then run out for
a superb 60 and the rest of the inning fell away against some good death
bowling from Toby Edgell 2-4 with Alan Taylor bowled for 8 and Luke Mills
bowled for 1 leaving Keith Alderman 1 not out in Hythes final total of 219.

Hythe then got off to the perfect start with the ball as New Milton's main
batsman B.Berthon-Jones was bowled third ball by Grobler for 0 and from that
moment I think both sides probably knew there was only going to be one
winner. Grobler knocked over the other opener at 14 with a good slower
delivery and Froggett who was bowling with usual amount of no luck finally
nipped one back to knock over the stumps and leave New Milton at 48-3.
Kendrick who had replaced Grobler then bowled the last recognised bat
N.Lewis for a fine 27 and despite a belligerent 25 from U-17 colt Dom
Bilham, Hythe and Grobler were in no mood to be denied as the returning
Grobler picked up two quick wickets and when Simon Wright removed Bilham,
caught Mills, New Milton were 106-7. A lack of intensity in the field a
typical Hythe trait when in control of a game enabled New Milton a few extra
runs and Hythe's catching again let them down but despite a gutsy 28 no from
R.Marsh. Grobler was not to be denied his 5th wicket and soon after leggie
Mills picked up his maiden first team wicket and Kendrick finally wrapped up
the game with his second strike as New Milton were dismissed for 148.
